Black-capped Chickadees are year-round residents of New York City. In this sketch, I wanted to show a love that endures even the coldest winter months.
These two chickadees facing each other symbolize connection, dialogue, and quiet devotion. In winter, when the world feels bare and silent, they remain close and vocal—reminding us that warmth often comes not from the environment, but from companionship. For me, they represent tender partnership, emotional resilience, and the small conversations that keep relationships alive through difficult seasons.
I saw Black-capped Chickadees in Prospect Park and Central Park. The way they communicate with each other is gentle, expressive, and instantly recognizable.
