Common Yellowthroat Couple in Conversation is a watercolor painting from my Birds of New York City series, part of the Birds in Conversation sub-series.
I spotted a common yellowthroat during a quiet moment in Bryant Park, a rare and surprising encounter in the heart of Manhattan.
Symbolically, the Common Yellowthroat represents communication, awareness, and emotional honesty. Painted as a pair, the birds become a metaphor for dialogue and connection—two individuals sharing space, listening, and responding to one another. In the middle of a busy city, they reminded me how meaningful moments of true conversation can still exist, if we slow down enough to notice them.
