This watercolor painting captures the bold and determined spirit of the European starling, one of the most iconic birds of New York City. The species was introduced to Central Park in 1890 by admirers of Shakespeare who sought to populate America with every bird mentioned in his works.
I created this painting at a moment when I was facing doubts and fears about presenting my work to the world. As I painted, I felt a strong sense of moving forward as an artist. The artist’s path is not the easiest — there are roads that are much simpler, but they don’t bring me happiness.
The starling came to embody that choice. In this bird, I expressed determination, clarity, and a firm commitment to my path.
